A conversation with author Nicola Chester about her life, shaped by the landscape she has fought so hard to save. Author of the Wainwright Prize highly commended novel ‘On Gallows Down’, Nicola talks protest, nature, belonging, hope and the future of climate action.
Nicola has been an activist for nature all her life – and been writing about it for the last twenty years. Among other things, she is the RSPB’s longest running female columnist, a columnist for Countryfile Magazine and a Guardian Country Diarist. She lives in a tenanted farm workers cottage in the North Wessex Downs and her memoir On Gallows Down; Place, Protest and Belonging, is a clarion call to do what we can for nature and the planet, with love, passion and joy – as an antidote to the heartbreak and because it changes things.
